I love this family, they are great friends of mine and I am absolutely honoured that I got to do their family photos as well!
The day was hot, the air was thick .... poor baby wasn't feeling well. It was a recipe for disaster. Or was it? Turns out not! With some patience (and a quick shutter speed!) I was able to get FANTASTIC shots for them and I know Mom was pleasantly surprised at just how many ... so who says heat and not feeling well means a "bad" session? NOT ME! :)

Better late than never?
I sure hope it's better late than never!
Up until this year, I've been pretty good with keeping up with my own kids' yearly photos. I guess this one just got away on me. I've been pretty busy with work, and it just seems like life is just go-go-go all the time. So this morning, I finally got my son to pick out what he's comfortable in, do his hair (which got smushed by his favorite hat anyway, but whatever) and we went and did some "official" 12 year photos.
I gotta say, I'm pretty proud of these ... not only from the photographers perspective, but hey - that's MY kid!!! I get to be the proud Mama on these ones too!
Some of you have met this awesome kid ... he enjoys helping with sessions when he's around, and has taken an interest in photography in general. He's often the test subject for my lighting, so the we joked today that the difference for these were that he wasn't in his pajama pants. heehee!
We decided to do the second half of his photos in a few weeks. He wants some with all his football gear on, and so does his brother (in his own gear, they both play), but we are waiting for a jersey yet ... so I'll post a few of those when i have them done :)

Happy Birthday Brooklyn!
Well, despite having a cold (or teething, I'm not sure which it ended up being) Brooklyn was as cute as can be! She clung to Mom a lot, which I was told was normal even if she'd been feeling 100%, so Cheerios did the job to distract her from the fact she wasnt in Mom's arms, lol!
I seriously love these photos! Happy Birthday Cutie-Patooty!

Baby Christian
I got to snuggle another little newbie the other week .... oh, how I love those sessions!! At just 9 days new for the first half of the session, he was as squishy and new as they come still! I absolutely adore these images!
The family images were done a few weeks later when his older siblings were able to all be here as well. What great family! I so enjoyed doing these!

Baby and Child safety
As the title suggests, I just want to take a minute and talk about Safety for photos. With all the gorgeous poses in baskets, hanging wraps, etc., it's really important to me that my clients know I will do everything in my power to keep it SAFE for your baby, or I wont do the shot. And I feel parents should know what to expect and what to ask of a photographer to ensure that.
Here are (in my opionion) 3 basic questions to ask your photographer before letting them handle your newborn:
1)Where do you work? (ie. are most poses done on the floor or on a table?) If it's a table, the next question is super important!
2)Do you have a spotter, and if not, may I be one? (often the photographer will ask the parent to spot, this is not to make their job easier, it's to make it safer. Some new moms are understandably, not physically up to being a spotter, please tell your photographer that ahead of time).
3)Are you able to blend images, or remove hands supporting the baby in photoshop -or whichever editing program they use? (this is for those times you just cant let go of baby). Ask to see some before and afters so you can preview the quality of work as well.
If your photographer is not able to do these things, or unwilling to do the extra work in editing, my suggestion is to find someone who can and is. It's your baby's safety on the line, and safety should come before cute. Period.
My son helped with this session that I'm using as an example of a composite (he's helping more and more, and I love it!), and as mentioned on my facebook page, I'm posting how a composite photo is done. The reason I'm posting the "secret" is just because I feel it shouldn't be such a secret. If your chosen photographer wants to hang baby in, out of, or on anything that even has the smallest chance of baby moving in, out of, or on, he or she should either have a spotter (someone who has hands ON the baby until the last possible second and is completely focused on just the baby) or be able to do a composite photo (have hands IN the photo supporting baby, and merge more than one photo to create the final image without the supporting hands in it - this is hanging in, or positions that a baby cannot naturally support themselves in).
This "froggy pose" is very popular, but done properly, it's a composite photo.

Brittany's Grad Session!
Wowza ... that dress! I LOVE it!! And man, did she rock it! I could not have dreamed of a more fun session than with Brit (and her Mom). I know grad photos weren't high on her priority for things to do to celebrate, but I heard later that she had a really great time as well and was glad she'd had them done. This is music to my ears!
Locations were crazy, and I made sure they knew about anything I knew about before hand. Woodticks, mosquitoes, and even Bees at one, and then unexpectedly, dog poo at another. No joke. (Thanks Elaine for covering it so I didn't step in it TWICE! lol!) With just a bit of planning ahead, her gorgeous dress didn't get dirty at all, but we were able to get some pretty fun shots.
I dont say all this to scare future Grad sessions away, but to brag on this one a bit. If I suggested it, they said "sounds great!" and I was totally free to do what I wanted creatively.
Sooo, if you're thinking of having Grad photos done yet, there is still plenty of time! I do them all summer yet, and if you're not up for mosquitoes, woodticks, and bees ... dont worry ... I've got lots of other great "safer" locations I like as well, and the studio! lol!

First Birthday!
Oh goodness, isn't Riley just the cutest little guy ever?! I absolutely loved his first birthday session! We kept it moving along at a pretty fast pace, and he had nothing but smiles for me! And waving arms and giggles!!
The Cat in the Hat set I crocheted worked wonderfully, even though Riley wasn't too thrilled to wear a hat! His mom was pretty quick and sneaky about getting it on his head though!
I could literally post all the photos for cuteness sake, but here's just a few and I'm sure you'll get the idea!
